"Ultimate Engine Tweaks Mod Boosts Oblivion's PC Performance"

If you're among the numerous fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you may have encountered its share of challenges. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, Oblivion Remastered is plagued with "dire" performance issues on PC. Video producer Alex Battaglia has labeled it "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even with the most advanced hardware at your disposal, the stuttering is severe, significantly undermining the gaming experience to the extent that it's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release," Battaglia stated.

"And aside from the stuttering, this game is one of the most unexpectedly resource-heavy titles I've encountered - meaning you'll need to lower your settings just to maintain a decent average frame rate, even if you can tolerate the stutter."

PlayIt's hardly surprising, then, that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has seen a staggering 386,604 downloads in under a week.

Here's how the mod is described:

"Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ modifications aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving image quality, all without any visual degradation."

"After extensive testing with UE5, I wanted to share my optimized ‘Engine.ini’ changes for the game," P40L0 explained.

"My objective was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eradicate most stuttering, boost performance, minimize input latency, and enhance visual clarity by removing Film Grain & Chromatic Aberration, refining DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without compromising visuals or causing glitches or crashes."

View 6 ImagesFeedback from users who have installed the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)," added yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.

Despite these performance issues on PC, Oblivion Remastered remains immensely popular, boasting an impressive peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game enjoys a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix deployed on April 25 has impacted Microsoft Store players' ability to adjust their UI settings for graphics, particularly concerning upscaling and anti-aliasing. At the time of writing, players using the Microsoft Store (including those on Game Pass for PC) are unable to tweak these settings due to a problem with the settings UI. Bethesda has acknowledged the issue and is working on a solution.
