Nintendo has recently confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, much to the relief of fans. This clarification comes after initial concerns sparked by a disclaimer on Nintendo's website that suggested otherwise.
Previously, the page for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included a notice stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This led to worries among fans that the game would not support cloud saves as expected, as reported by IGN last week.
However, Nintendo has since updated the information on their website. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page has been revised to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."
This updated disclaimer should put Switch 2 owners at ease. It indicates that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves for Tears of the Kingdom to their new Switch 2 consoles, but transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original system will not be possible, as noted by Eurogamer.
Similarly, the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now carries the same message, suggesting a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have gone live, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The response has been as enthusiastic as anticipated. For more details, you can refer to IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
