Zomboid Survival: Master Window Barricade Tactics

In Project Zomboid, securing your shelter from the undead hordes is crucial. While finding a safehouse is relatively easy, fortifying it requires strategic planning. This guide focuses on a fundamental defense: barricading windows.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To secure your windows, gather the necessary materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have these items, right-click the window you wish to barricade. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are frequently located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn these items.

Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks installed, the more time it takes for them to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." A claw hammer or crowbar is required for this action.

Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot be effectively used as window barricades; players and zombies will pass through them. However, moving furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.

While wooden planks offer basic protection, more advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets are achievable with sufficient Metalworking skill.
