Pesten With Cards is a beloved Dutch card game that translates to "Bullying With Cards." It shares similarities with games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, and Uno, which are played in various countries. The primary objective of Pesten With Cards is to be the first player to shed all of their cards. To win, a player must announce "Last Card" before playing their final card. Failure to do so results in a penalty of drawing two additional cards.
The game can be enjoyed with multiple decks, including jokers. Each player starts with 7 cards, and the remaining cards form the stock or stack, with the top card turned face up to begin play. Players take turns clockwise, aiming to match the top card on the pile by either number or suit. Jokers and Jacks are versatile and can be played on any card. If a player cannot play a card, they must draw from the stock. If the drawn card is playable, the player has the option to play it immediately or keep it in hand.
Last Card
When a player has only one card left, they must click the "Last Card" button to alert other players. Forgetting to do so before playing the last card incurs a two-card penalty, and the last card is not played. Incorrectly declaring "Last Card" also results in a penalty. The "Last Card" button can be pressed at any time to ensure readiness before playing the final card. Winning the round requires playing the last card, which must not be a special card.
Special Cards
Special cards trigger specific actions based on their number or type. These actions can be customized in the game settings to align with the variations commonly played in the Netherlands. The special cards and their effects are as follows:
Joker: The next player must draw 5 cards. If they have a joker, they can play it, increasing the draw to 10 cards for the subsequent player. Each additional joker played adds 5 more cards to the draw. Players drawing cards cannot play them immediately; the turn passes to the next player.
Two: The next player draws 2 cards. If they have a two, they can play it, increasing the draw to 4 cards for the player after them. Each two played adds 2 more cards to the draw. If enabled, a joker can be played on a two, adding 5 cards. A two cannot be played on a joker. As with jokers, drawn cards cannot be played immediately.
Seven: The player must play another card. If playing a seven leaves the player with one card, they must remember to say "Last Card." If unable to play another card, the player must draw from the stock.
Eight: The next player skips their turn, allowing the player after them to play. In a two-player game, playing an eight allows the player to take another turn, similar to the seven.
Ten: All players pass one card to the player on their left. The player selects the card to pass by clicking on it.
