Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored Mouse-Enabled Joy-Cons Intrigue Enthusiasts

Following this morning's Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality seem increasingly plausible.

PlayThe reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface. They connect to connectors with flat bottoms and move like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on a Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. Nintendo hasn't confirmed this, leaving the implications open to interpretation. Fans envision uses in mouse-and-keyboard-centric games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative applications in first-party Nintendo titles. The possibilities remain excitingly uncertain.

While much about potential Switch 2 mouse support (and the new Joy-Con button) remains unknown, we have key information: it's officially the Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, with a new Mario Kart title in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
