Critical Role's Travis Willingham teases game reveal

The cast of Critical Role is gearing up to reveal their first major video game project, with CEO Travis Willingham teasing that an announcement could drop "any day now."

During a recent interview with Business Insider, the team shared exciting details about their future plans. While specifics about the game's title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham confirmed developers are "hard at work" bringing this ambitious project to life.

"Players will take direct control of the narrative, influencing outcomes not just for fan-favorite characters but also discovering new elements of Exandria," Willingham explained about the game's interactive storytelling approach.

Willingham, both a voice actor and co-founder of Critical Role alongside talents like Laura Bailey and Matthew Mercer, has helped build the D&D phenomenon into a multimedia empire. Their Amazon Prime animated series Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina stands as one of their most successful adaptations.

The upcoming game will expand the Critical Role universe while maintaining its own distinct identity. In December 2024, Willingham revealed to Rolling Stone they were in "active development" of a video game adaptation, stating they were "approaching the finish line after several years of work." It remains uncertain whether the game will adapt existing campaigns or feature original Exandria stories.

The team initially anticipated announcing the project by late 2024 or early 2025. With spring underway, industry watchers are on high alert for an official reveal.

"Our previous collaborations served as valuable test runs," Willingham told Rolling Stone regarding their gaming initiatives. "With the current shifting landscape in interactive entertainment, we're carefully considering how to best integrate our creative vision into this evolving space."

No release window has been confirmed for the Critical Role game. Fans can currently look forward to updates about The Legend of Vox Machina's upcoming fourth season.
