Ōkami 2: Direct Sequel Confirmed, Early Development Underway

The highly anticipated Ōkami sequel, announced at last year's Game Awards, has finally received some clarification. While details remain scarce, IGN's recent interview with the project leads revealed key information. The sequel is confirmed to be a direct continuation of the original Ōkami's storyline, featuring the return of the sun goddess Amaterasu, a fact confirmed by producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi despite director Hideki Kamiya's playful ambiguity.

The team addressed the previous Ōkami entry, Ōkamiden, acknowledging both its positive reception from some fans and the mixed feedback regarding its storyline and development. Hirabayashi stated the new sequel will directly follow the original Ōkami's narrative, effectively sidestepping Ōkamiden's plot. This is consistent with Ōkami's ending, which leaves Amaterasu and another character embarking on an unexplored journey, ripe with potential for new challenges and adventures.

Development is still in its very early stages, prompting the early announcement, according to the team's excitement.
