Monster Hunter Wilds: Duration Revealed

Author: Dylan May 25,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest installment in Capcom's renowned action series, making its debut on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Following the footsteps of Monster Hunter World and its expansive Iceborne update, Wilds promises another thrilling adventure. But just how long does it take to complete? Here, we'll share the time different members of the IGN team spent to finish the main story, their priorities during gameplay, and their experiences in the postgame.

Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games

I completed the main campaign of Monster Hunter Wilds in just under **15 hours**, reaching the actual end of the story. Unlike Monster Hunter Rise, where the first credits roll at the midpoint, Wilds' credits signify the end of Low Rank. However, the journey doesn't end there; High Rank awaits with numerous side quests and challenging encounters.

I spent **another 15 hours** tackling nearly all the High Rank quests, which led me to the true endgame. This meant battling every available monster, unlocking all initial systems and crafting options, and diving into the new Artian weapon system. Thanks to Wilds' efficient progression, I needed just **five more hours** to optimize my preferred weapons and armor set, although there's always more to explore across other weapon types.

I reached the final story mission in High Rank after about **40 hours**, with **22 hours spent after the Low Rank credits**. My time might not be precise, as I spent a lot of time in menus for guide creation. During the Low Rank phase, I didn't delve into the game's deeper systems, focusing instead on crafting with available resources and progressing through the story. In High Rank, I explored more, taking on optional monsters and hunting with friends to unlock further story missions.

I upgraded my weapon only once by hunting an Ajarakan, but if time allowed, I would have aimed for a more optimized set, potentially increasing my total playtime to around **60 hours**. Post-game, I have plans to engage in endemic life-catching, fishing, and completing remaining side missions. I'm also excited about farming monsters to upgrade Talismans, experimenting with different armor sets, and exploring the Artian weapon system. Additionally, I look forward to replaying the story with friends and enjoying future event quests and title updates.

Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer

I finished the main story of Monster Hunter Wilds in **just under 16 hours**, a surprisingly shorter runtime compared to my 25-hour journey in World. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles manageable, with only a few instances of fainting against apex predators. The streamlined approach for newcomers, with less emphasis on elemental strategies and extensive tracking, certainly contributed to the shorter playtime.

The consistent flow of story cutscenes and monster battles until the credits felt less like a traditional Monster Hunter experience and more like a cinematic journey. While I appreciated the quick conclusion, I wondered if it left some of the series' core elements for the post-game. I'm eager to see what more Wilds has in store.

It took me **20 hours** to reach the initial credits, during which I tackled most optional and side quests while also exploring the world of Wilds. I enjoyed discovering hidden paths, hunting endemic life, customizing my menus, and finding optimal camp locations.

I completed all High Rank missions and side quests in **15 hours**, encountering all post-credits monsters. So far, I've logged nearly **70 hours** in the post-game, enjoying activities like hunting with friends, decoration farming, and hunting for monster crowns. I'm excited for future title updates that will add more monsters to the roster.

I hit the first credits after **20 hours**, mainly focusing on the story with a few detours to craft appealing armor sets and experiment with various weapons, particularly the Switch Axe. My total playtime is now **65 hours**, and I view the credits as more of a transition point rather than the end.

There's still much to explore and hunt, with new monsters and crafting options on the horizon. I appreciate the story serving as an extended tutorial, preparing me for the vast world of Monster Hunter Wilds. While I hope to avoid certain monsters like Congalala, I'm eager to continue my adventure.
